Besides dealing with my sudden unemployment when my oldest child was a toddler, I was hoping to figure out a way to extend my time at home with him. We rented at first, but the rental situation in our new town was poor. Nine years later, the rent for similar homes in our neighborhood is double the cost of our mortgage!
