They also took the kids (one at a time) each year and entertained them by going to tourist attractions in their area. They drove the 200 mile trip on holidays and birthdays to celebrate with us. There were no day care centers – women stayed home and raised the kids. Working from home usually meant selling stuff door to door. Toni home perms were prevalent. Hair cuts were done at home by a family member. People cooked and ate at home. Entertainment. The cold war colored our life. Food/shopping.

We have a one story ranch home of around 2300 square feet located on 6 acres within 4 miles of stores, medical care, entertainment, gasoline stations and more. Although our home is pretty age friendly already, we are now thinking about changes we should make to allow us to stay during the rough times of old age ahead.
