I think the shape of them is a little better because there’s no neck and the food can seamlessly expand upward and slightly outward. You can use (and reuse) the usual metal lids and metal bands. Also, you know how the grated Parmesan lids work on standard-mouth jars?

It’s been around forever in one form another, whether back when your grandmother reused glass bottles for canning or in 2014 when a truck comes around to pick up all those empty soda cans you put out at the end of your driveway.
