We spent the past weekend yanking weeds, trimming the edges, spreading mulch, and sprucing up our front yard landscaping. In place of wood chips, we buy leaf compost from our township. It has been a problem area ever since we re-did our landscaping in 2007. While plants in other areas of the landscape have flourished.

Even though I amended the soil in my boxed garden with compost over the years, the majority of the soil was thick, heavy clay that made pulling root vegetables, like carrots, very difficult. The leaf compost was delivered on Friday morning and we started our projects by the afternoon and worked all weekend. Thanks for reading.

A local nursery is hosting a Spring Open House over the next two weekend where they are offering seminars on seed starting, growing perennials, landscaping, chickens, and container gardening. Although if I remember correctly, the potato went into the compost; it got moldy before it sprouted. Thanks for reading.
