No kids = no money on candy = no candy wrappers in the landfill. No kids = no parties or haunted houses = money saved. We do put up decorations (ones I buy at garage sales or thrift stores and reuse each year). Tip # 2 Recycle/reuse costumes. Compost it by cutting it up and putting it on the pile.

If you really want to send out paper invitations, use recycled or handmade paper and use a single sheet. Print them yourself to save money. You can see an example of six months worth of trash in their home – it all fits in two hands. When I came across the Zero Waste Home blog I was captivated.
