I took at least three trunks full of “stuff” to Goodwill, I had a garage sale, and I sold things online. And then, well, like a weed that just won’t stop growing, the stuff started piling up again. Battling clutter will be a lifelong activity, especially in our consumer society. Boy, did I declutter.

Just bare twigs in a large vase, with old ornaments tied to them can be pretty as well. We live on the edge of the prairie and prairie grasses grow well here. They kind of look like the ones for sale at Curious Country Creations. Plan ahead and hit garage sales, but especially estate sales.

In spite of the expense, some of the newer furniture is much less well made than older pieces. Garage sale and thrift store furniture bargains abound. I used several boxes of baking soda to help sanitize and deodorize them as well. There another product called Krammer’s Best Antique Improver that also works well.

I pick up a lot of them at garage sales for 25 cents to a $1. Although we tried diligently to follow this at one point in our lives, we found it a bit too time consuming to really follow it long term. Also, my spouse and I are both buy and hold investors, so the selling part didn’t clique well with us.
