Many of the other items I needed like cloth diapers and clothes for the baby in bigger sizes I bought from garage sales. Babies grow so quickly that their babies only wore some outfits for a time or two before they outgrew them, so the clothes looked like new. We Love to Spend Money on Our Children.

I took at least three trunks full of “stuff” to Goodwill, I had a garage sale, and I sold things online. And then, well, like a weed that just won’t stop growing, the stuff started piling up again. Battling clutter will be a lifelong activity, especially in our consumer society. Boy, did I declutter.

I cut down a small cedar tree (which grow like weeds on our 6 acres) each year, put it in a tree stand on the porch and put white twinkle lights on it. We live on the edge of the prairie and prairie grasses grow well here. Plan ahead and hit garage sales, but especially estate sales. These make nice gifts too. But being kind to.

But to reach full consumer status, they have to be taught to want things – and they learn fast. Some get stuff from stores, the less financially favored head for thrift stores, garage sales, Mom’s house or the trash pickup routes. Kids will naturally accumulate stuff, even when they can’t buy it.

This is a biggie while you are on vacation (you won’t get back this way, buy it now) or at a sale event (such as a garage sale or estate sale or auction). Grow apple trees and honey bees. Garage sale and thrift store furniture bargains abound. My daybed mattresses were previously used by a young girl, in her growing up bedroom, then stored by the parents for years.
