Years ago, Mom introduced me to the idea of going to garage sales. People sell the darnedest things at their garage sales. Garage sales take time, you have to hit quite a few before you find the item you want or need. I look for the neighborhood sales, which are usually either in spring or fall.

These are the times they will remember, long after they have forgotten who gave them that video game they love to play! For the younger crew, playgrounds are always fun (unless it is too hot of course). Hold a garage sale together. Build a bean bag toss game and award prizes to those who hit the hole. Pick a duck.

Another benefit is that I am cutting the governments out of the loop – there no sales taxes on used stuff (except big things of course, like boats or cars). Here is a short list of some of my favorite finds at garage, estate and thrift store sales. Brand new board games still in shrink wrap – Cash Flow – $3.

Negotiation is certainly a tricky game, and a lot of it can depend upon the emotions of the negotiating party. In a way, it can be comparable to a good game of poker, you don’t really know the hand of the other player, and you just raise your bet depending on what you have, and what you think your “opponent” doesn’t have.

I purchased a few packages of silver and lime green balloons for less than $1 each and some ribbon for $2 that we used to decorate with as well as for playing some of the games. I printed off these Jedi Knight certificates and presented them to each child at the completion of the course. Talk about perfect timing! each on clearance).

They kind of look like the ones for sale at Curious Country Creations. Plan ahead and hit garage sales, but especially estate sales. You can pick up beautiful decorations, wreaths, linens, trees and more at these sales. We bring gag gifts and play games instead of doing a regular gift exchange.
