However a few years ago, we found ourselves with too much debt and not enough cash. Within a year after settlement, we found ourselves with a lot of debt, not enough cash flow, and very little set aside for emergencies. We had our daughters later in life and at a crucial time in our lives, I stopped our retirement contribution.

Our daughter is 24 and was adopted from Eastern Europe when she was one week short of a year old. He married the love of his life almost two years ago, so now we have a daughter-in-law, too. My mom cut coupons and sewed her own clothes and mine, as well. Alan and I, by choice, bought land in an area with low property taxes.
