Our daughter is 24 and was adopted from Eastern Europe when she was one week short of a year old. He married the love of his life almost two years ago, so now we have a daughter-in-law, too. Although my parents never specifically taught me about finances, they lived a frugal life by necessity. Our son is 29 and biological.

It can start simply with an offer to balance the checkbook or simplify the finances by consolidating everything (into their account). Because of that, I urged my daughters-in-law to develop their own earning power. At the time, I was working part time for about 8 hours a weekend, earning minimum wage. Asset hiding.
