My 5 year old grand daughter did it last year in my Grandma Rie’s Money Camp. Some retail stores do still give out gift boxes for free, always check if you are buying in a brick and mortar store. Shop garage sales and thrift stores and estate sales. Make your own gift boxes using Origami.

We do put up decorations (ones I buy at garage sales or thrift stores and reuse each year). My daughter-in-law came up with this idea, buying bulk pumpkins and bulk flowers. Once the kids left home, we ended up with zero trick or treaters at our house on a state highway. Tip # 2 Recycle/reuse costumes.

Another benefit is that I am cutting the governments out of the loop – there no sales taxes on used stuff (except big things of course, like boats or cars). Here is a short list of some of my favorite finds at garage, estate and thrift store sales. I’ve seen similar ones (Razors) for sale for $40 new.
