We had our daughters later in life and at a crucial time in our lives, I stopped our retirement contribution. I had to cut something from our spending and do it quickly.

Our daughter is 24 and was adopted from Eastern Europe when she was one week short of a year old. He married the love of his life almost two years ago, so now we have a daughter-in-law, too. Alan and I, by choice, bought land in an area with low property taxes. Our son is 29 and biological.
