I chose to study Psychology because it was interesting – but had no clue as to what (if any) career opportunities it would yield for me. After all, there were so many of us Boomers going for the same job in a tight (think stagflation) economy – employers really did have their choice. Perhaps my fear was somewhat justified.

Be Careful When Using Non-Investment Criteria To Evaluate Investments. In today’s economy there is renewed focus on getting good dividend producing stocks. I used to focus pretty exclusively on growth stocks, so didn’t have this problem for years. Situations and economies change (as we all well know now).

If you and your spouse or family disagree on saving, spending or investing one party may inadvertently sabotage the efforts of the other. Use good stock. It is the same with your finances, whether with credit, savings or investments, use the most reputable institution offering the best plans that you can find. Feed and water.

It behooves you to understand these things because your broker may or may not try to educate you about them. For years, as a novice, I used Merrill Lynch and while my broker did a great deal to educate me about stocks and bonds, he never mentioned that I could set the price at which I wanted to buy or sell my stock!
