Most of us did not have air conditioned homes. People opened their windows and used attic fans or sat in metal lawn chairs outside to cool off. Our home was heated with a coal stove. Christmas gifts were precious, opened one at a time taking turns, and then examined by everyone present before the next guy got to open theirs.
