Recycling is great for the environment and we should all be doing it (in spite of my title), but reusing is even better. When you can reuse or re-purpose an item, you are not only saving it from the landfills, but you are also saving the expense and energy which would have been expended when you recycle. I’m always looking for ways to save my family money to help us get through current higher food and gas prices and achieve our big financial goals. I planted a small garden this year: 2 tomato plants, 1 cucumber, 1 pepper plant that sadly didn’t make it, and 1 butternut squash. My Frugal Shenanigans!

After I had kids, I swapped that time to growing all sorts of interesting heirloom foods in my backyard. Over the years, I’ve invested small amounts at a time, extending my growing space, adding several types of berries, planting cherry trees, and growing an asparagus patch from seed. Enjoying some outdoor time.

We also used the 40 year old burnt orange coffee pot to make coffee that day as well as the 20 year old ice chest and 25 year old rain ponchos from the local amusement park, old plastic forks and spoons, unused condiment packages from fast food restaurant stops and plastic tablecloths used at last years wedding shower. Sure, people do actually plant some of them, but I think throwing them is much more fun. Imagine if everyone started guerrilla gardening in their hometowns, filling in all those empty spots and roadside tracts of land with flowers and/or food; sure would make this world a better looking place, no? Find a local supply of plants.
