Never try to use non-canning jars to preserve your food – doing so could lead to dangerous (invisible) bacteria growing in your food. I have found that garage sales , flea markets , estate sales or Mom/Grandma’s basement are the best places to score a great deal on used canning jars. If the jar is damaged, do not use it.).

Did you find something on Freecycle that you were planning to purchase? Being able to actually see your savings grow in your sinking funds can be great motivation to look for additional ways to save money. If you use $10 in coupons on a grocery purchase, add $10 to a sinking fund. If you submit a $5 rebate, add $5 to your sinking fund.
