Just look at the many people scouring garage sales in the summer. Likewise, thrift stores are always full of people. Our home is filled with items we bought used. Blender Fifteen years ago, I bought a blender at a garage sale for $3. Toaster Oven I bought a toaster oven at a garage sale for $2.

Save any shopping bags you get through the year – especially the paper ones or ones that are unique in design, then use them at Christmas time. Shop garage sales and thrift stores and estate sales. Holiday tins are also bountiful at these sales. Shop the after Christmas sales.

I remember when there was a shoe repair shop on almost every corner. You could take your radio to the radio and TV repair shop down the street, but most things you could probably fix yourself. At garage sales, are you attracted to those still usable but slightly defective items that no one else wants?

They kind of look like the ones for sale at Curious Country Creations. Plan ahead and hit garage sales, but especially estate sales. You can pick up beautiful decorations, wreaths, linens, trees and more at these sales. Thrift stores are also a great place to shop. Christmas in July.

In spite of that, history indicates that sweat shop seamstress positions had a ratio of 20 applicants per position. Although Mom didn’t sew much (she did mend), she made sure I took Home Ec in high school. Learning how to do alterations could land you a job in a bridal salon or formal wear store. To decorate.

My husband works a pretty demanding job and I currently am a homemaker/stay-at-home mom, and do some freelancing in my spare time. Over the years I’ve become a good home cook. Also, thrifting —I very rarely buy new, it’s normally secondhand. My husband and I have been married for 20 years and have two school-aged kids.
