While I am not that thrifty, and I love prettily wrapped gifts, I don’t like to spend a bunch on wrappings. Use those as well. Shop garage sales and thrift stores and estate sales. She would very carefully (and slowly) unwrap her gifts so as to be able to preserve the paper. Use paper drop cloth to wrap.

For many, the end of the year holiday shopping frenzy can override our saner, more thrifty selves. Sometimes, as we shop we see things we would like to own and decide to treat ourselves with a gift or two as well. So, hey, I guess I can take the tax reduction next year as well as this! I can park my car and walk from sale to sale, getting a bit of exercise, enjoying the fine weather and seeing the architecture and landscaping of the homes along the way. I also occasionally get to encourage young entrepreneurs by purchasing their wares (usually soda or lemonade but sometimes more ambitions products as well).

A good deal on a big bag of fresh lettuce isn’t thrifty if you can’t use it up before it rots. There have been countless times I have seen nearly new, decorator pieces being sold for pennies on the dollar at garage sales because the homeowner decided to re-decorate.
