Years ago, Mom introduced me to the idea of going to garage sales. People sell the darnedest things at their garage sales. Garage sales take time, you have to hit quite a few before you find the item you want or need. If you are in more of a hurry, find a thrift store instead. I love a bargain. My best finds.

For small packages, find interesting magazine pages to use in wrapping. Use those as well. Shop garage sales and thrift stores and estate sales. Christmas decorations, wrap, bows and ribbon all are continuous offerings at pretty much every garage sale, thrift store or estate sale I’ve ever shopped.

My standard of living (and most other people’s as well) is much better now that we have all of the conveniences from the past 60 years available. riding lawn mowers, garage door openers and many, many more things we take for granted today. There were no garage door openers. If you are younger, imagine your life back then!

Type in ‘sewing’ into your search engine and you will get a tremendous number of results, all the way from companies selling sewing machines, patterns, and material, to blogs, class offerings, books, magazines, videos and events! I believe that your opportunity cost would be too great as well. Sewing takes time.

Magazines and newspapers are all available online now. And if you rent, save money and then invest the difference. Cancel subscriptions. Do it yourself.
