We also used the 40 year old burnt orange coffee pot to make coffee that day as well as the 20 year old ice chest and 25 year old rain ponchos from the local amusement park, old plastic forks and spoons, unused condiment packages from fast food restaurant stops and plastic tablecloths used at last years wedding shower.

Years ago, Mom introduced me to the idea of going to garage sales. People sell the darnedest things at their garage sales. Garage sales take time, you have to hit quite a few before you find the item you want or need. If you are still reluctant to buy used, consider the below bargains. I love a bargain. My best finds.

Are you a ‘buy it new’ snob – one of those people who shudder at the thought of using someone else’s cast off stuff? I swore I’d never buy used junk again… but now I’ve changed my mind. Home owners get bored and re-decorate or re-vamp their homes. I was for awhile.

I love going to garage sales. Lately though, I’ve begun to re-consider. The free item needs too much re-furbishing. I found a brand new magazine rack for 50 cents, a 2 foot diameter artfully crafted wreath for $10 and a FREE WHEELBARROW. This past weekend, I went out garage sailing just for fun. Here is why.

If you are looking for a can of spray paint you used last summer, you are more likely to look somewhere that you have other cans of paint stored. Store things where you use them. Unless you have a very small house, you can save yourself time and effort by storing stuff where you use it. I carried this idea to our garage.

But I had no idea where to start or how to go about simplifying my life until I read a magazine article about the psychological benefits of de-cluttering your workspace.
