Years ago, Mom introduced me to the idea of going to garage sales. People sell the darnedest things at their garage sales. Garage sales take time, you have to hit quite a few before you find the item you want or need. If you are in more of a hurry, find a thrift store instead. I love a bargain. My best finds.

I’m guilty as well. He built his own garage. At garage sales, are you attracted to those still usable but slightly defective items that no one else wants? Sometimes, as we shop we see things we would like to own and decide to treat ourselves with a gift or two as well. So, hey, I guess I can take the tax reduction next year as well as this! You may decide you don’t need or want the item at all if you push yourself to wait to get a bargain on it! I know I do. Winter clothes.

I also occasionally get to encourage young entrepreneurs by purchasing their wares (usually soda or lemonade but sometimes more ambitions products as well). Here is a short list of some of my favorite finds at garage, estate and thrift store sales. 50 each (and cleaned and disinfected as well) on them.

A smile or a word from a parent or teacher, seeing someone enjoying their savings, a chance combination of a happy conversation, a sun shiny day and an increased amount in the piggy bank – all may result in one child’s brain being wired towards the pleasure of saving. As teenagers, we may be madly saving up for a car.

Know what you want to do and plan it out well ahead of time. Understand what parts of the job may require code inspections and what the codes mean. Garage or estate sales. Thrift shops. I found wood frames for my national park posters and a wildlife themed shower curtain at the local thrift stores. Plan ahead.

Many of the other items I needed like cloth diapers and clothes for the baby in bigger sizes I bought from garage sales.
