Of course, I want the best deal possible, so I went scouting to see what I could learn about getting the best deal on a rental car. Choose the right car for your needs. Usually, if we fly somewhere and then rent a car, we just get the smallest (least expensive) type available. Most rentals are for the business week.

Right now, I'm still seeing airfare deals and you probably will still be able to get an okay deal on a hotel (and still get a room before they all fill up). Book a Ride-Share Car Need a rental car? Then skip the traditional rental companies if you can. These are basically Airbnb, but for cars.

Ziploc bags You never know when you'll need to separate something from something else, but also when you want to take a bag of cookies with you or keep your wet bathing suit from getting your rental car seats soggy or have an emergency diaper situation. I have started replacing single-use bags with silicone Stasher bags.

There was the gas, the hotel, and the restaurants to pay for. I bring a hot plate and a skillet and sauce pan with me to the hotel to reheat freezer meals that I’ve made in advance. Use discounts on rental cars. Use hotel rewards. Ask for a better hotel rate or room.

If you have, and use company job perks, you may be less tempted to look around for other employment, you may be more satisfied with your job and work a bit harder – or so the theory goes. Free to use PC. Free 3 Star Hotel Rooms. Of course I signed up with each airline and hotel for points. Employee pricing on new cars.

USB Data Blocker for when you need to charge your phone and use a public outlet. I bought these after our bags got stolen from the trunk of our rental car in San Francisco when we were, literally, 50 feet away having tea. Now, I use these for my laptop, headphones, car keys, etc.
