This update includes how we frugal-ed in April, May, and June. I received a quick response that they would reimburse us for the unused tickets from Philly to Harrisburg, which equaled $400 and more than covered the rental car. The gift cards were for Father’s Day and some June birthday gifts.

Go Sooner Or Later Mid-June through mid-August is peak summer travel times. If you can go at the beginning of June or the end of August, you might be able to get a deal and beat some of the worst crowds. Book a Ride-Share Car Need a rental car? Then skip the traditional rental companies if you can.

Go early If your kids get out of school sooner the rest of the country, take advantage of your good fortune and vacation before the second week in June. The middle of June through the middle of August is going to be the most expensive time to travel almost anywhere, and the most crowded. Don’t forget your cash back!

Our rental season is pretty much limited to 2 weeks in June, all of July and 2 weeks in August – sometimes with a holiday or two thrown in. I was counting on an average of 4 months rentals.
