How this holiday has changed since I was a child in the 1950’s, and even since I raised my own sons in the 1970’s/80’s! My spouse and I grew up in different St. Louis suburbs but had similar experiences with Halloween. The number and variety of Halloween items in this thrift store surprised me.

That was true for me as well, but I also think that poverty is a very relative concept. Today a poor person in America probably has access to electricity, telephones, food, indoor plumbing, central heat and public transportation. My Mom grew up in St. Our son was born in October, so I carried him all summer.
