Why Save Money in a Low Interest Rate Environment?

I would go into the bank with my stubby little hands clutching my months worth of allowance (total of $1), deposit it and see the results right off printed in my book. Back then I had a passbook. Nice immediate incentive. This was part of my parent’s plan to turn me into a saver. Saving is a prerequisite to becoming an investor.
