We got a great deal because we used the bidding tool that Priceline and some other sites allow you to use. This allowed us to name the price, minimum amount of stars, and location that we were comfortable with.

I have used the extra money to pay off debt, fund family trips, or build up our Christmas savings. Airfare Refund: $2700. In January 2020, we booked round-trip flights to Paris for the four of us. Yep, I found a $20 bill on a morning run at the beach! My total of found money in February: $3433.68. Rakuten: $233.93.
