If you think buying used is just for people who are on a tight budget, think again. Mixer I would love to buy a Kitchen Aid mixer, but that’s not yet in the budget. We’re fortunate to have an aunt and uncle who love to have the latest electronics and cameras. Likewise, thrift stores are always full of people.

Agree on the values and expectations you want your children to have in the area of personal finance and consistently teach and enforce those between the two of you (and clue in any significant others in your family such as aunts, uncles, grandparents and etc). Yelling at your child when they miss their budget isn’t instructive.

My aunt and uncle never had a lot of money to donate to their church, but every weekend they volunteered to help set up for weddings or clean up after them in the church hall. Don’t Let Your Budget Stop You From Donating I always feel guilty that I can't give to charity more than I do. But, honestly, our budget is slimmed.

After all, I have many aunts and uncles who winter in Florida, so I would have family nearby and my mom could come to visit to escape the Michigan cold. Arizona is a 27 hour car drive away, and with our family of 5 living on a tight budget, flying really isn’t an option. We’d miss the greenery of the Midwest.

I went on buying trips to New York for the fancy ladies wear shop run by one aunt (they used to model the dresses at high end shops), learned the uniform business from another aunt, and was taught the basics of the Borscht Belt hospitality business by a great cousin. After dinner, Dad went off to Schul with his brothers.
