School started after Labor Day and ended after Memorial Day. Men and boys wore slacks and button up the front shirts. Heck, there were barely chain guards! There were lots of kids to play with (we were the baby boom after all). Kids walked to school. Alone or with a friend. Schools did not have air conditioning.
