Growing up in the 1950?s

The average home size in America was around 1100 square feet. Ours was smaller (about 700 square feet) – 2 bedrooms (my brother and I shared one and my parents the other), a kitchen and a living room, No basement or garage. Most of us did not have air conditioned homes. Our home was heated with a coal stove.

Needs vs. Wants

Home offices. Yes more folks work from home these days and the tax laws encourage setting aside a space to dedicate to a home office. My parents made do with one for most of their years, even when my brother and I started driving. Heck, I used to go to the Y and work out over lunch. 200+ TV channels.
