As a child, I grew up on a road that didn’t have a lot of houses, so while trick or treat was fun for me and my brother, we only came home with a handful of candy. I’ve trained my daughters to hand over their peanut butter cups (which go into my secret freezer stash). I’m a HUGE fan of after holiday clearance!

I was up until 2:30am on Christmas Eve and my daughter and son-in-law were up until 3:30. My granddaughter laughed at her brother’s antics and then tried to consume the shiny wrapping paper. New shoes for me and my daughter and this for my son-in-law: He’s a big cheese fan, so only a vat of cheese will do!

My brother once cleaned potato chip bags after turning them inside out and used those as gift bags! My 5 year old grand daughter did it last year in my Grandma Rie’s Money Camp. Three years ago, I bought a bag of new holiday ribbons that would have cost me upwards of $50 if I had purchased them from a retail store.

I’m pretty sure I always sang it as Grandmother’s house, which is weird since we actually went to my Grandfather’s house for holidays. The day starts/started with my mother or me or now my daughter getting up and stuffing the bird and getting it into the oven. Then my daughter required mashed potatoes.

My daughter-in-law went with me (my first grandson in tow) to look over various properties and we found one we both preferred. Our rental season is pretty much limited to 2 weeks in June, all of July and 2 weeks in August – sometimes with a holiday or two thrown in. I was counting on an average of 4 months rentals.
