This was a time I had been thinking about not teaching anymore and staying home, so I was looking for new ideas to be thrifty. He is also thrifty and is much better at budgeting than I. I am not tempted to splurge on jewelry, make-up, or manicures. He got his roofing urges out when he build our garage last year though!)

For many, the end of the year holiday shopping frenzy can override our saner, more thrifty selves. However, I wait until spring and summer to buy decorations – and get them at garage sales. Cosmetics and jewelry. We get desperate to find gifts for everyone on the list. I know I do. Winter clothes.
