While I'll ask friends for recommendations, I'll also ask people I meet while out and about, like my Uber driver, or staff at my hotel when I meet them in the elevator (cleaning staff mostly, because they are the regular people who have to budget and don't get anything for sharing those special spots.

There was the gas, the hotel, and the restaurants to pay for. I bring a hot plate and a skillet and sauce pan with me to the hotel to reheat freezer meals that I’ve made in advance. Use discounts on rental cars. I initially booked directly through Budget, and the cost for a large SUV for a week was $595.

Normally, I break my list down into three categories - budget, moderate, and splurge - but this year everything is under $120, and most are much less than that, so you can get more for your buck and be even more popular to that traveler on your list. Now, I use these for my laptop, headphones, car keys, etc.

He managed to budget for a PC for each of his staff to use at home – dialing in to the work mainframe computer to do after hours work. Free 3 Star Hotel Rooms. Of course I signed up with each airline and hotel for points. Employee pricing on new cars. Rental car discounts. Half price symphony tickets.
