We will probably be renting a car for our vacation this year. The sales tax, plus the ongoing higher property tax and insurance are really turning him off – and the van does fine if we drive it locally or just for a few hours to the lake. Choose the right car for your needs. Normally we take my spouse’s minivan.

We usually go with one empty credit card, put everything on that ONE card so it’s easy to keep track of, and try our best not to go over our spending goal. Another cost to factor into flying is whether or not you’ll need a rental car when you arrive at your destination. It’s too risky.

On the renter side, new fees have been initiated by and are paid directly to VRBO – approximately 3% of the charges for the property rental. These fees are in addition to the owners rental, cleaning, deposits and the governments sales taxes and can easily had hundreds of dollars to the cost of a stay.
