Cheap (not just inexpensive, I mean cheap – easy to break) toys came from post-war Japan. Gasoline stations did not serve food, have coffee or provide bath rooms. People listened to the radio, watched TV, went to the local (one screen) movie house or entertained themselves. There was no polyester clothing.
