If you are in more of a hurry, find a thrift store instead. Expect to pay a bit more in a thrift store, but if it is run by a charitable organization, you can feel good about paying a few bucks more because you are helping out the cause. Most of us did not have clothes dryers, we dried the clothes on a line outside. There was no polyester clothing. Clothing had to be ironed to look good. Gasoline stations did not serve food, have coffee or provide bath rooms. Most of us did not have air conditioned homes. Some of us did not have central heat.

You can make it fun for you kids by running a household scavenger hunt in which you reward you children for finding household items to donate, such as clothes, toys, books, old appliances, and canned goods. You can even reward them with extra allowance with the money saved on gasoline and car upkeep.
