Learning to sew takes time and equipment. A super short history of sewing. In many parts of the US, people learned to sew as part of their life skills – from parents or family or schools. Although Mom didn’t sew much (she did mend), she made sure I took Home Ec in high school. Clothing is cheap, sewing is not.

Do you love to sew/knit/crochet? However, there’s always stuff to sell, like outgrown, but good clothing, shoes, toys, household goods, etc. I shop at thrift stores frequently and I am always amazed at how much I see with store tags still on the product. My mom makes and sells Raggedy Ann & Andy dolls.

Sewing holes in clothes, using up leftovers before they go bad, finding free activities for my little on the weekends, checking buy nothing or marketplace before purchasing- I am always just looking for ways to spend money. What’s the easiest/hardest part of being frugal? It’s fun and also horizon expanding.

I stopped by my two favorite thrift stores last week: Salvation Army & Community Aid, a local store. I only go on Wednesdays, because both stores offer an additional 50% off on almost everything. I cleaned out our closets a couple of weekends ago and I found that we are in need of some spring & summer clothes.

We have accumulated a lot of stuff – lose screws, highly prized collectibles, everyday essentials, clothes that ‘might fit again someday’, tools, children’s artwork, food stuffs and more. Store food in the kitchen or as close to it as possible. This will also reinforce on your memory where you have stored your things.

I got this dress at a thrift store a while back and it was floor length. The thing is…I can’t sew. It was eventually suggested that maybe I costume shows using rented pieces, or thrifted. Maybe not so much with the sewing when I was costuming… But still. I wasn’t GOING to sew, see I was going to use Stitch Witch.
