For 20 or so years I’ve been homeschooling my kids, and am now down to about 1 1/2 (one full-time homeschooler, and one doing College Credit Plus with some support). I know I found The Frugal Girl through the Non-Consumer Advocate, and I’ve read nearly all the archives. We rent now and are much happier.

But to reach full consumer status, they have to be taught to want things – and they learn fast. We rent a shelter (usually), and it is bare! You donate to suitable charities. Kids will naturally accumulate stuff, even when they can’t buy it. We leave the nest – move out of Mom and Dad’s well stocked home.
