I also try to cram as much "fun" as Ican between December 1 and the 24th. That way in December you'll only have to maintain everything. Cookie swaps, Christmas Eve party, Christmas dinner, ect. If you have crafts in mind to do in December, write them down and check to see if you have everything you'll need.
