However, none of these tools will help drivers that intentionally or unintentionally sabotage their own fuel economy. Examples of driving habits that decrease fuel economy include poor vehicle maintenance and terrible driving habits. Besides being safe, not speeding can help you save money on fuel as well.

Use cruise control. Why carry around all that extra weight, which not only costs you more in fuel but also more wear on your engine. Fuel-injected cars do not, contrary to popular mythology, use more gas starting up each time than they would just idling Combine errands. Buy fuel-efficient tires. Keep tires inflated.

During the “great recession” when oil prices dipped, fuel efficiency took a backseat to other issues. But due to the improving economy and chaos in the Middle East, the price of oil is quickly climbing back up. But to make it even more confusing, remember that jet fuel is extremely high octane. The EPA Fuel Economy Estimates for the Mazda 3i Grand Touring are 28 MPG for city driving and 40 MPG for highway driving. I actually was getting a little bit higher on the highway but there was zero traffic on my way home and I had it on cruise control the whole way. I filled up at $3.56 I found this to be pretty accurate.
