The repeated defrosting cycles tend to cause freezer burn on foods pretty quickly, so I try not to keep things in my kitchen freezer for long at all. Now, I regularly stop in at Safeway (decidedly NOT the cheapest grocery store!), In a self-defrosting freezer, though, I’d try to eat it up more quickly than that.
