I wanted a place for our family to gather – adult children and grandchildren along with us. The tax code for second homes used as rental properties is incredibly complex here in the US. My sister-in-law and her husband had one that they used and rented out and indicated that it was doing well. An accountant is required.

Although he is single and lives alone, he has a decades long friendship with a woman and has come to be considered a pseudo Dad and Grandpa by her children and grandchildren, but he has no legal relationship with any of them to my knowledge. Ignore it now and deal with it later if he dies first. Ignore it, maybe I will die first!
