I have used the extra money to pay off debt, fund family trips, or build up our Christmas savings. In January 2020, we booked round-trip flights to Paris for the four of us. This trip was a reward for our years of paying off six figures of debt , and we were going to pack a lot into our week. And then…COVID hit.

My kids are able to bike to school and activities – my son even bikes to the airport where he takes flight lessons. I was in 4th grade, and had 2 younger siblings when they began their debt-repayment journey. We also all had academic scholarships to help with costs.

If I could spend it without strings, I might just donate it to a food pantry. I think for my flight of fancy, I would need a lot more than $1000. Once I was out of college, without debt, I had the freedom to make choices about what I would do and where I would work. So if it’s income, I would turn it down. 😉 10.
