If you are in more of a hurry, find a thrift store instead. But, find one in a high end neighborhood, one where the store sorts through the donations to select only the best. An outdoor bench with oak slats and iron insets for $2. Garage sales and thrift stores are great places to find books and DVDs.

Go hiking and camping and show them the beauty of the outdoors (and teach them to leave trails and campsites better than when you arrived) Plant a garden with your children to give them a tangible example of how much fun growing your own food and eating healthy can be!

Fashion changes and new or nearly new clothing gets sold at sales or donated to charity. Here is a short list of some of my favorite finds at garage, estate and thrift store sales. Outdoor bench (I refurbished it) $5. I swore I’d never buy used junk again… but now I’ve changed my mind.
