Prairie Eco-Thrifter

Pests are a big problem for any homeowner looking to keep his or her lawn in tip-top shape. Freezer challenge | five out of eight things: eaten

The Frugal Girl

Here’s what I started with last week: The flank steak is thawed in the fridge for something for dinner tonight. Haven’t decided! The frosting is still in the freezer. The bread is currently in the oven as a french toast casserole. We ate the pulled pork for dinner one night.

What I Spent, What We Ate | $65.50

The Frugal Girl

What I Spent. Let’s see. I started out with a $25 Hungry Harvest box. Next, I made a $22 Aldi trip, a $6.11 stop at Food Lion, and a $12.50 trip to Costco (I did buy some other things at Costco, but they were non-food items, such as light bulbs.). So, I’m only at $65.50 for the week.

Star Wars. And a Cheshire Cat.

The Frugal Girl

As you all know, I am totally not a fan of Star Wars. Like, at all. I checked my watch multiple times through the last movie to see when it would be over, actually. But Zoe thought it would be fun if Mr. FG and I dressed up as Han Solo and Princess Leia, so that’s what we did.

The freezer challenge, it is back!

The Frugal Girl

I kind of fell off the freezer challenge wagon this summer when I was about 75% of the way through. But I really do want to finish cleaning this thing out so that I can easily defrost it. And I’d love to have a nice clean slate to start with!

What I Spent, What We Ate | also, last week’s spending!

The Frugal Girl

What I Spent. By the way, the mystery soup from my freezer was indeed butternut squash soup. And I ate it all! Yay me. I spent $156 this week, so just about on budget. Buuuut I spent $239 last week. I did buy an organic turkey, so that kind of explains the high spending last week.

Tuesday Tip | Make a no-sew rice sock

The Frugal Girl

If you have some random orphan socks at your house, use them to make a microwaveable rice sock. These are so great to put on a sore muscle, and they work especially well around your neck. And you can freeze them to use for calming down an inflamed muscle.

What I Spent, What We Ate | It’s November!

The Frugal Girl

What I Spent. I started out the week with a trip to Aldi and one other store, totaling $84.26. And then I managed not go to to the grocery store at all again. Yay me! What We Ate. Saturday.

Monday Miscellany

The Frugal Girl

I have random things to say, people! Tide pods are convenient, but not THAT convenient. Since they’re definitely more expensive than the liquid Costco or Aldi detergent I use, I’d never tried them until I got a pack for almost nothing at CVS (coupon and sale).

“You only live once! Spend the money!”

The Frugal Girl

I’d like to hear your comments on your balance between “You only live once” (so spend) and… needing to be responsible and save. I’m naturally frugal (I love that you use frugal and not cheap, which has such a negative connotation to it) but sometimes I do have to think “Laura, you only live once — spend it” Do you have these moments? Many thanks! Laura. I definitely understand this dilemma!
