Hold a garage sale together. Make it an all day event by bringing lunch and planning a few non-swimming activities (such as a hike or a campfire with story telling or beach volleyball, etc). Set the yard up with booths and events and invite the neighbors over for a fun old fashioned carnival. Plan your own carnival.

They kind of look like the ones for sale at Curious Country Creations. Plan ahead and hit garage sales, but especially estate sales. You can pick up beautiful decorations, wreaths, linens, trees and more at these sales. Buy a big roll of brown paper at Lowes or Home Depot and use it to wrap gifts.

However, I wait until spring and summer to buy decorations – and get them at garage sales. Obviously, anything with decorations related to the holidays will most likely be reduced in price right after Christmas.
