People opened their windows and used attic fans or sat in metal lawn chairs outside to cool off. Cameras had to have actual film and pictures had to be developed after the whole roll of film was ‘exposed’ Research was done at a library using the Dewey decimal system, not a search engine. Weather prediction was terrible.
