Most of us did not have air conditioned homes. People opened their windows and used attic fans or sat in metal lawn chairs outside to cool off. Our home was heated with a coal stove. Christmas was a one week event – between Dec 25 and Jan. There were no day care centers – women stayed home and raised the kids.
