Who would have thought 7 weeks ago, that this humble boxed garden with its new soil.would become such a jungle. would explode into this. And my raspberries that I bought at a yard sale last summer.love their new location.

Vertical Gardening Update: I've Got Cantaloupes

In years past, the plants took over my garden and spilled into the yard , so I changed my planting strategy for the melons this year and planted upward , not at ground level. It is now the middle of July and I am seeing the benefits of vertical gardening for vine plants. Do you plant melons vertically?

This year, we replaced the dirt in my square foot garden , built a vertical trellis , planted perennials around our patio, and a slew of smaller projects. Growing Herbs in My Garden

I was able to plant my herbs in my square foot garden on Monday, before the rains came in. I have always planted parsley and rosemary, but this year I added a few more. My veggies will have to wait another day. I expanded my herbs this year. Along with those two, I have dill, thyme, basil, oregano, pineapple sage, and lemon verbena.

Calling All Gardeners: What's Wrong with My Raspberries

I bought some raspberry plants at a yard sale in May 2010. They survived last summer even though they were practically overrun by some other viney plants , but they didn't produce any fruit. It has been very dry here since June and I have been watering the plants when I water my very productive square foot garden.

Calling All Gardeners: What's Eating Our Tomatoes?

It was hard work and there was an initial expense, but I knew I wouldn't have to deal with the weeds any more and I knew my plants would love it. I spent a lot of time this past spring shoveling out the old clay dirt that was in my garden and replacing it with the mix that is recommended in the book, Square Foot Gardening. I almost cried.
