Most of us did not have air conditioned homes. People opened their windows and used attic fans or sat in metal lawn chairs outside to cool off. Our home was heated with a coal stove. There were no day care centers – women stayed home and raised the kids. Working from home usually meant selling stuff door to door.

Needs vs. Wants

We got by back then using open windows, fans and attic fans. A phone for each person in the house. Yes, there were phones. Smart phones. I used to classify cell phones as a want as well, but with the disappearance of pay public phones, I am changing my mind. Smart phones are still a want to me.
