In 2007 or so, though, I got a nightstand from Freecycle, and I decided to try painting it. Zoe still uses this freecycle nightstand that I painted for her in 2008 And now I have eleventy zillion furniture painting projects under my belt. A few things that make a good first project: do something with simple lines.

Many years ago, I got a little wooden chest from freecycle. The freecycle chest is pretty small. I took the lid off to make my job a little easier. Then I was ready to make a delivery! You can see some “after” pictures of it here, in this tour of Lisey’s room at the other house. Long live the minivan!

While many of us want to live more sustainably, it can be difficult to make the switch suddenly. These make great shopping bags, and you won’t have to buy new bags. However, it makes sense to look for used items before you go buy new. Most of us do better with gradual changes. Stop with the Bottled Water. Go Low-Flow.

Then, my friends pay for baby and me exercise classes so they can get out of the house, make friends, and get some exercises. Garlick got all of her children’s clothes and gear from friends, family, and sites like Freecycle. Why Does Not Spending on Your Children Make Others Angry? The expenses add up fast.

So take note of the following tips to make this year’s spring clean a frugal and eco-friendly exercise. And in selling on your old stuff you may make some money into the bargain. Make your own cleaning products. Re-use, recycle or re-sell. Once the clutter has been cleared then the cleaning can begin.

You might even luck out and find one listed on Freecycle or in your local paper’s classified ad section. Another tip is to check your local shops in the off-season, as now and then you will come across a good sale when a store is needing to clear out existing inventory to make room for new product.
